Version 0.1.3. About 1.5 GB on disk after installing. The CAD engine, your models and your cases stay on your computer; the app talks to our server only for your account, registry screening and hosted AI models.
First launch
These builds are not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID or a Windows code-signing certificate, so the system asks once whether you trust the app. After that it opens like any other app.
macOS
- Open the .dmg and drag DesignAround into Applications.
- Open DesignAround. macOS says it cannot verify the developer. Click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about DesignAround and click Open Anyway, then confirm.
The first start can take a minute while macOS checks the bundled libraries. Later starts take a few seconds.
Windows
- Run the installer. If SmartScreen says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
- The installer puts DesignAround in your user folder and adds it to the Start menu.
- Open DesignAround from the Start menu.
Windows Defender may scan the bundled files on the first start, which can take a minute.
Linux
sudo apt install ./DesignAround-0.1.3-linux-x64.deb
# or
sudo dnf install ./DesignAround-0.1.3-linux-x64.rpm
Then start DesignAround from the applications menu, or run designaround-desktop.
What the app includes
- The chat workbench with the DesignAround Assistant. It runs on an embedded agent runtime that keeps its own settings and does not read or change other AI tools on your computer.
- The local CAD engine: models built from scratch for your requirements, STEP and IGES import, shape comparison, manufacturability checks, patent line drawings and filing packages.
- Python 3.12 and Node.js 24, used only by the app. Nothing is installed system-wide, and your API key is stored in your user folder (
~/.designaround) with owner-only permissions. - The same account works in the app, in the terminal CLI and inside agent hosts such as Claude Code or Codex through the Skill. See Docs for the CLI.
Checksums
To check a download, compare its SHA-256 with the value below: shasum -a 256 <file> on macOS and Linux, Get-FileHash <file> in PowerShell.
